The President of the Spanish Government has shown his respect for the Supreme Court's ruling on Wednesday against former Minister José Luis Abalos and has assured him that he was "never" aware of corrupt practices affecting some members of his government and party, and that if he knew them, he would not accept them.
The President of the SpanishGovernment, Pedro Sánchez , has expressed his respect for the Supreme Court's ruling against former Minister José Luis Abalos and has stressed that there can be no area of impunity for corrupt people in Spain, "whoever they may be".
This was the first time that Sanchez spoke about the sentence after the Supreme Court sentenced former Minister Abalos to 24 years in prison andhe did so atthe plenary of the Parliament, where he appeared to explain his position on judicial cases affecting the PSOE.
The head of the Spanish Government recalled when the facts contained in that ruling began to emerge and asked that the facts of the judicial investigations affecting the PSOE be distinguished "from the headlines, leaks and speculations of political and media actors".
Sanchez wanted to spread the sense that there is widespread corruption in Spain, which he believes is false, and he wanted to make it clear that he "never" learned of the corrupt practices affecting some members of his government and party, and that if he knew them, he would not accept them.
After that, he has assured us that there has been "no illegal funding" in the PSOE, and that "if anything has happened, others have taken advantage of the party's benefits." Finally, he has refused to acknowledge that corruption is "innate" and will therefore try to eradicate it.
