Ramón Rubial Awards recognize the work of UGT and CCOO
The award ceremony was held this Sunday in Donostia-San Sebastián under the leadership of socialist leader Eneko Andueza and was also awarded to journalist Almudena Ariza and the Military Emergency Unit (EMU).
On Sunday, the secretaries-general of UGT and CCOO, Pepe Álvarez and Unai Sord, received the Prize for the Defence of Democracy and Freedom, awarded by the Ramón Rubial Foundation. The leader of the PSE-EE, Eneko Andueza, who has been responsible for awarding the award, has highlighted the "constant work of both unions in the defence of workers' rights and in the defence of democratic values in Spain".
Faced with populist speeches and the alliance of the right and the far right, Andueza has stated that "the social majority is ready to stand up and win" and has recalled that "it is time to fight for progressism, left-wing policies, for improving people's lives and for social justice."
Under the slogan "Values with Own Voice: Values with Natural Light", the 19th edition of the awards also wanted to reward the work of journalist Almudena Ariza in the section of communication, the EMU has received the Prize for Solidarity and Cooperation, and the head of the Socialist Group in the European Parliament, Iratxe García, the Prize for the Defence of Socialist Values.
