EH Bildu asks Zupiria for explanations about the "police violence" that occurred during the Carmen holidays
In a clash between supporters of the Spanish team, the Ertzaintza had to intervene, and four people were injured in that exchange.
EH Bildu has asked the Security Adviser, Bingen Zupiria, to explain in the Basque Parliament the "police violence" shown by the Ertzaintza during the Carmen holidays last Sunday in Donostia-San Sebastián.
The Department of Safety and Security reported last Monday that onthat day a group of people were intimidating Spanish fans after winning the World Cup in the Old Town, people who were at times "cornered and threatened."
In view of this situation, the Ertzaintza identified seven persons and one of those involved in the attack, a 28-year-old man, was arrested on charges of an attack on law enforcement officials.
Following these events, the Carmen de Donostia-San Sebastián Festival Commission denounced the "aggressive attitude" of the Ertzaintza towards some of the people in the festive compound who had no connection with the altercations. In fact, the cops beat them as they tried to reduce the atmosphere.
"With blows and violence"
EH Bildu's MP, Gorka Ortiz of Guinea, said on Thursday in a statement that Zupiria must specify whether " it has been proportional to the officers being beaten and violently brought into the festive compound, ignoring the statements of the security officials in that space and that, as a result of the beatings of the Ertzaintza, four people have to be treated in the ER. "
Ortiz of Guinea has asked the Security Adviser to explain "why the officers entered the txosnas area and used such a level of violence", despite the fact that the members of the party committee tried to calm the situation.
