Pradales will demand "accountability" from the parties on Thursday to address international uncertainty

Lehendakari Imanol Pradales will be in the Basque Parliament this Thursday to address thegeneral policy debate by presenting a diagnosis marked by the "complexity" of the international situation and its consequences in the Basque Country . From the conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine to the rivalry between the US and China, he will address the demographic challenge, climate change and technological transformation.

Despite the difficulties, Pradales will highlight the strength of the Basque economy, recalling that economic, industrial and labour activity continues to grow, and that there are also signs of optimism based on recent developments in industry and foreign trade.

However, the President will warn that the new geopolitical scenario opened up following the arrival of Donald Trump in the White House affects the Basque productive fabric. In this context, the Lehendakari will explain that the Basque Government will place among its priorities theprotectionof activity and employment , the support of the family economy and the transformation of industry.

He will defend in plenary the work of his Government during the first part of the legislature and demand compliance with the Government Programme, stressing that the President governs on the basis of dialogue, participation and agreement, exemplifying the round of meetings held at the beginning of September with political parties, social partners and economic representatives.

With a view to the new political course, the President will place health, housing, education, security and employment  as the main challenges, in addition to issues such as climate change, artificial intelligence and comprehensive well-being, and public investment and infrastructure will play an important role in the initiatives planned for the coming months, all of which, in his words, will be structured around three main objectives: strengthening public services, investing in future transformations and strengthening the sense of community.

Relations with the State will be another of the axes of the agreement. Pradales will criticise the polarization of Spanish politics and warn that the Basque Country must avoid a dynamic of permanent confrontation, while urging the Spanish Government to fulfil its commitments to the Basque Country and, in particular, to develop the Gernika Statute in its entirety.

Finally, Pradales will proclaim "humanism" as the compass for facing the future, and will defend the Basque model of sustainable development as a combination of quality of life, social justice, self-government and community engagement. In a particularly intense political course, including two elections, the Lehendakari will demand "accountability" from all groups in the Basque Parliament.
