The Department of Food, Rural Development, Agriculture and Fisheries will convene an urgent meeting with representatives of the sector and institutions in the coming days to monitor the situation.

The confinement has been ordered by the Ministry of Agriculture of the Spanish Government and has determined the area of special surveillance in Navarre, which comprises 12 municipalities. Neurri is preventive, but for a community with many farms it is not small, while in Álava the order affects six municipalities. 

Poultry from 12 municipalities in Navarre and 6 in Álava must be confined from today in the face of the rise of avian influenza in Europe. The Ministry of Agriculture calls for calm but insists that we must be prudent in preventing contagion and curbing the spread of the virus.

From 10 November, measures affecting domestic and breeding birds in specific risk and surveillance areas, which do not exist in the CSC but in Navarre, will enter into force.
