From now on, the Palliative Care Protocol is not limited to terminally ill patients with a survival of less than six months.

On 27 March, the Interterritorial Council of the National Health System agreed to propose to the trade unions the mediation of the Platform of Patient Organizations. The unions disagree because the platform "is neither neutral nor expert in labour matters". Both parties have agreed to hold further meetings, but in the meantime the doctors maintain the strike planned for the week of 27 April.

The aim is to provide a more orderly, equitable and effective response to this reality, with "continuous assistance" adapted to the different stages of the disease and the complexity of each minor, for which there will be multidisciplinary teams of paediatricians, paediatric nurses, social workers and psychologists, and 24/7 support.

As EiTB has learned, registration for the first nine categories has maintained a high pace since its inception, in a process that is open until 22 April.

The tests will be conducted on 19, 20 and 21 June and will include a new OPE model: test type examinations and a note reservation for subsequent calls.

Basque doctors have taken to the streets for the second time this week against the general statute agreed by the Ministry of Health. Medicuas, which calls on the Ministry of Health to have the power to negotiate working conditions. Gutxien services will be established until Friday to claim the rights of doctors. 

Hundreds of medical professionals have called on Monday to respond "with facts" to their demands during demonstrations in the three capitals of the Basque Autonomous Community and have been convinced that they will achieve their objectives "at all costs".

The Basque public health system has approved a new instruction according to which it will bear the costs and procedures for the incineration of these remains, provided that the consent of the patient  or his relatives is available.

On the occasion of the European Day against Attacks on Health Professionals on Thursday, Osakidetza has detailed that of the total number of attacks reported in 2025, 94 (9%) caused injuries, most of which did not cause casualties. The rest, a total of 953 (91%), were non-injury attacks, such as insults and threats.

The Government has awarded a project for the construction of a hospital with an investment of 107.6 million. The hospital will be located at the entrance to the municipality, on a plot of almost 8,500 square metres, with 90 hospitalization beds and 380 professionals operating. 

Three decades after the first liver transplant in the Basque Country, the Basque Health Service has carried out almost 2,000 such transplants, about 75 per year, and ranks first worldwide, with a rate of 60 transplants per million inhabitants, three times the average in Western countries.

The Health Counsellor has warned that if the Ministry does not assume its responsibilities, the Basque Country will require the management of health competences.

The department has reviewed 168,841 doses administered in 2025 and activated a reinforcement plan with an investment of €1.5 million to advance "non-deficiencies" in the vaccination system.

Every year, Osakidetza diagnoses 60-70 new cases of cancer among children under 19; in Navarre, about 20 cases are dealt with. Associations of families of children with cancer will today carry out various activities to visualize the disease and raise awareness.
