Moroccan security forces claim to have dispersed migrants, mostly of sub-Saharan origin, who were hiding in a mountainous area of Castillejos.

The earthquake has had its epicenter in Alhendine and the 112 emergency service has received more than 200 calls, in addition to a fortnight of replicas in the Vega area of Granada, without any injuries.

The cities of Ceuta and Melilla have strengthened security in the face of calls to cross the border. Rabat has also tightened measures by establishing more barriers and controls in Castillejos.

The Sectoral Conference on 27 August will be the first to be held in Ceuta since the massive influx of foreigners and the transfer of an extraordinary credit of EUR 25 million to Ceuta linked to the care of unaccompanied migrant minors.

The Minister of the Interior has announced the dispatch of 45 additional police officers to Ceuta in order to strengthen public security. Normalcy in the city has not yet been fully restored, despite the return of most migrants who entered unlawfully.

Police have cordoned off Trampoline Beach to prevent migrants from leaving the city.  Lack of food, water shortages and tension among the people gathered are increasing day by day and the situation of migrants is becoming more tense, especially given the uncertainty about their future.

The Temporary Stay Centre for Foreigners (CETI) has been overcrowded in recent days, with hundreds of migrants arriving from both Morocco and sub-Saharan African countries, including Sudan and Chad, waiting on the beach of El Trampolín and on the outskirts of the migration centre due to lack of space, while migratory pressure has exceeded the attention capacity of NGOs, whose priority is to provide food to migrants who have not eaten since their arrival, but who also provide information on their rights.

The Moroccan Ministry of the Interior has made an initial assessment of the massive influx of migrants into Ceuta and has reported the deaths of 11 people, a situation that Rabat has attributed to trafficking networks, disinformation campaigns and a misinterpretation of a Spanish Supreme Court ruling.

The Spanish Prime Minister has conveyed to Ursula von der Leyen his "grave concern" about the reaction of some European governments and has strongly criticised the closure of the borders announced by Italy.

The entry of more than 50,000 migrants into Ceuta has left the city saturated, and many have embarked on returning to Morocco.
