ChatGPT and Copilot will stop operating on WhatsApp and only Meta AI will remain available
As a result of the new messaging platform policies, third party chatbots will be shut down and, as a result, OpenAI and Microsoft will be withdrawn from tomorrow.
OpenAI's ChatGPT and Microsoft's Copilot will no longer be on WhatsApp from tomorrow, following changes imposed by the Meta-owned messaging platform, which will prevent access to third-party chatbots and keep its own, Meta AI.
Microsoft introduced Copilot into WhatsApp in October 2024 to offer users an alternative to interacting with artificial intelligence in their everyday environment, including consulting or creating images.
However, recent updates of WhatsApp policies now force the removal of this type of service. Microsoft has explained in a statement that from January 15, the platform will eliminate all chatbots based on large third-party language models (LLM).
In particular, WhatsApp states that providers and developers of Artificial Intelligence technologies, as well as generative Artificial Intelligence platforms or general purpose assistants, are strictly prohibited from using WhatsApp Business, which prevents the continuation of these services.
As a result, ChatGPT will also suspend its activity on WhatsApp, a platform where more than 50 million people have used its artificial intelligence assistant.
OpenAI and Microsoft have so far given a deadline for users who want to export the history of conversations before the two chatbots are finally withdrawn from Whatsapp.
