The keys to the CAF train project in Jerusalem

The project was awarded in 2019. It is an investment of around EUR 1.8 billion and envisages the construction of the Green Line and the expansion of the Red Line passing through East Jerusalem. The works are expected to be completed by 2027.

Controversial points
- Amnesty International and the UN have criticised the fact that the tram will cross the areas of East Jerusalem and its settlements in the territories occupied by Israel, which could disrupt events deemed illegal by international law.
- CAF, for its part, has stated that it has carried out legal and human rights assessments and that no violations have been identified, but that "the project has social benefits for citizens".
