ELA warns that 57 workers have died in industrial accidents in Hego Euskal Herria by 2025, 35 of them in Navarre
On the other hand, LAB has increased the number of deaths to 74, taking into account Basque workers killed abroad, although work-related deaths have increased again this year.
A few days after the end of the year, the trade unions have taken stock of accidents at workin the Basque Country and have denounced the increase in work-related deaths.
According toELAdata, 57 workers have died in industrial accidents in Hego Euskal Herria so far this year, 35 of them in Navarre. LABhas recorded 74 deaths, including Basque workers killed abroad, whichis 10 more than last year.
The last two deaths occurred on 29 December: one was thenon-traumatic death of an autonomous carrier in a shopping mall in Llodio (Álava); and the other was the death of an employee who was going to a home in Azagra (Navarre).
In particular, thelatter case has been denounced by CCOO. The Trade Union has warned that this group, the Home Care Service, is suffering from job insecurity, as it is under heavy pressure and has stressed the danger of workers on the road.
Thus, Comisión Obreras calls for the payment of a risk supplement, as well as for the Governmentof Navarre to comply with the funding supplements, and the union denounces that Navarra is among the territories with the highest rate of L accidents.
Urgent measures
Trade unions insist on the responsibility of companies and public administrations , LAB says that accidents at work, traumatic, not traumatic or in itinere, are not the result of chance, but of precariousness, subcontracting and current labour relations.
ELA and LAB have focused on the lack of resources for labour inspection. In particular, there are 54 inspectors in the Basque Autonomous Community, while in Navarre there are only 13, far from the European average.
Both unions stress that it is a political decision to increase the number of inspectors and call for urgent measures to place workers' lives and health at the centre of labour policies.
