With the new plant opened in Murga, Etorki and Lana will triple the production of sawed wood and create 100 jobs
The Etorki and Lana cooperatives have decided to merge this year, with a total of more than 300 employees and a turnover of 150 million euros. The plant has had a support of 12.8 million euros for the Basque Government, 20% of the investment.
The recently merged cooperatives Etorki and Lana of the Mondragon group have today inaugurated in Murga (Álava) anew L anti which, with an investment of 67 million euros, will be the largest sawmill in southern Europe and will generate about 100 jobs.
The new complex, 95,000 square feet, has a technology that allows the processing of logs 4.5 meters long and 60 centimeters in diameter, with a production capacity of 300,000 m² of sawed wood per year and 60,000 m² of drying.
The project developed between 2022 and 2026 has mobilized an investment of more than 67 million euros, of which more than 12 million (20%) have been provided by the Basque Government , through the Enlargement and Enlargement Egurra programmes, to help "strengthen the competitiveness of the company and its impact on the environment".

The work, founded in 1960 in Oñati (Gipuzkoa), transforms wood with value-added products such as three-layer boards for formwork, was founded in 1984 and is based in Murga (Álava), where the new factory opened today is located, and specializes in the production and processing of radiata pine wood.
Both cooperatives have explained that their merger will more than double their wood production capacity so far and improve the quality oftheir products, with greater added value for entry into new customers and markets, all with local forest timber.
The president of the Mondragon Corporation, Pello Rodriguez, has highlighted the "courage" of the members of both cooperatives and has stressed that this has led to a "much stronger and more competitive" cooperative.
The inauguration was attended by President Imanol Pradales , Counsellor Amaia Barredo and Deputy General of Álava Ramiro Gonzalez .
