Tubacex will launch an 8-month Temporary Employment Regulation Dossier (ERTE) at its two plants in Álava from 7 July, after the consultation period ends without agreement. This measure will affect the two plants of the company 430 workers: Tubos Stainless (Llodio) and Aceralava (Amurrio).
The last meeting to discuss the measure took place today, Wednesday, and the management of Tubacex attributes the need for this dossier to the situation in the Middle East and the decline in sales of pipes caused by the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
The ELA trade union stated on 26 June that Tubacex has not been able to "clearly verify the reasons" for the ERTE. Today it has maintained this view: it has argued that the account of the decline in applications and the general situation in the sector "is not reliably sustained" and that it is "unacceptable" to seek to apply the ERTE "after the distribution of 6 million in dividends in 2025".
It also reports that no agreement has been reached at the meeting and that the management has refused to extend the consultation period.
On the other hand, representatives of the LAB union are analysing the situation, together with the legal services, to decide what steps they will take.
The Temporary Employment Regulation (ERTE) is scheduled until 28 February 2027, with a maximum of 70% reduction in working hours, which will be around 95 days per worker, although its application will vary depending on the areas of the company.
