The Instituto de Salud Pública y Laboral de Navarra (NOPLOI) has activated the redhealth alert for high temperatures in the Foral Community, except on the cantabrian side where the orange alert is maintained. On the other hand, the Department of Safety of the Basque Government has extended until Thursday the yellow warning for very high temperatures in the Basque Autonomous Community (CAV), with maximum temperatures that can reach 37 degrees in several corners.
According to forecasts provided by the Ministry of Health and the State Meteorology Agency (Aemet), in the coming days high temperatures are expected throughout Navarre, which will rise from tomorrow, Thursday, reaching 40 degrees inthe Ebro Bank , values that will remain at least until Sunday.
Faced with this situation, NOPLOI recalls the need to drink more water, protect itself from the sun and look for fresh places, withintheframework of the campaign 'Head against hot cold' .
In view of the fact that holidays are held in many villages these days, it has recommended that local institutions avoid the hottest hours at events involving children under 4 years of age or the elderly, ensure that there is sufficient water for consumption in different parts of the municipality and provide shade areas and refreshments to people attending events.
In addition, it is advisable to stay in cool places or shower with warm or cold water, wear light and breathable fabric hats and clothing, cotton or linen type and cover most of the body, and avoid the consumption of alcoholic beverages, caffeine or sugar. It is recommended not to stay long inside vehicles parked in the sun, even if the windows are open, especially when there are minors, elderly or animals.
In the workplace, it is very important for companies to plan special measures for these days, such as increasing the frequency of rest periods in the areas enabled for this purpose, where staff can be hydrated and recovered; changing working hours to avoid exposure during the warmest hours; and even assessing the possibility of delaying work with the highest physical load to next week, when lower temperatures are expected.
In Álava, Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa, the warning that was activated until 7 p.m. this Wednesday for persistent high temperatures will be repeated this Thursday, and from 13:00 to 20:00 for very high temperatures.
Leaders have explained that temperatures of 19 to 28 degrees are expected this Thursday on the coast, 18 to 32 degrees inland, 17 to 36 degrees in the transition zone and 19 to 37 degrees on the Ebro axis.
