Euskarabidea presents a new edition of the "Euskera ahora" campaign to encourage adults to learn Basque
This year, people (over 16 years of age) who sign up for the initial level (A1) will have free or almost free tuition, thanks to grants from Euskarabidea.
The Department of Memory and Coexistence, External Action and Euskera of the Government of Navarre, through Euskarabidea, the Navarro Institute of the Basque Country, has presented a new edition of the annual campaign "Euskera now" to promote the learning of the Basque language by persons over the age of 16.
This year 34 local entities and agents in the field of teaching the Basque language to adults have collaborated with Euskarabide: the public Euskaltegi Zubiarte, the official language schools and the Euskaltegis of AEK, IKA and bai & by, among others.
Following last year's motto, "Euskera ahora", the Government of Navarre and Euskarabidea wanted to highlight in today's presentation the new experiences and opportunities offered by the knowledge of the Euskera.
The presentation of the campaign was attended by, among others, Euskera Counsellor Ana Ollo and Euskera Abide Managing Director Javier Arakama.
According to Arakama, about 5,500 students learned Basque in 2024-2025 in Euskaltegis and schools in Navarre.
Grants for the new school year
This year, as a novelty, students who will take the A1 level in public schools or approved Euskaltegis will have their tuition free or almost free.
At the other levels, they may receive grants of up to EUR 475 for those who take face-to-face courses, which shall be compatible with those granted by local authorities.
