The City Council of Vitoria-Gasteiz will from tomorrow impose a fineof EUR 200 on drivers who commit offences in the low-emission zone, which has been in force for three months, but until now only offenders have been notified.
The low emission zone in the Alavesa capital was established on 15 September and has had a stable start, without major incidents and very well covered by the citizens, according to Beatriz Artolazabal, Councillor for Public Space and Neighbourhoods.
During the reporting period, the City Council has sent more than 2,000 warning letters to offenders.
The amount of the fine is determined by the Traffic Act, and in this case it will be EUR 200.
Over the past few months, 50 to 80 vehicles a day have violated the law. That is, between 1.3% and 1.6% of cars passing by.
