Two arrested for attempting to strangle the owner of a house where they entered to steal in Andoain
The two victims awoke to see the door knocking again and again, and when the door opened, a stranger in black came upon them.
Agents of the Ertzaintza have arrested two men accused of attempting to rob a rural house in Andoain and assaulting the couple who live in the house, as one of the assailants tried to strangle the tenant with the cable of a lamp.
According to the Basque Government's Department of Security, the events took place around 8 p.m. on Thursday, when the two victims woke up to the repeated knocking on the door of the house.
The man thought he might need a neighbor, and when he opened it he saw a stranger dressed in black, who came upon him and brought him down to the ground. At the same time a fight broke out, and the thief struck him and tried to choke him with the wire of a lamp.
Upon realizing what was happening, the woman helped her partner and began repeatedly beating the stranger with a crutch, at which point another person broke into the house and tried to help the assailant, but seeing that the woman was telephoning the incident, she left the house.
For his part, the first assailant continued to beat the two occupants of the house, but managed to stop them until a police patrol arrived at the house.
The officers arrested the attacker and found that the victims suffered multiple bruises and injuries and needed health care.
At the same time, a team from the Municipal Police and another from the Ertzaintza met the second fugitive suspect, who was also arrested.
The detainees, aged 24 and 25, were transferred to the Ertzaintza premises on charges of robbery with violence, in order to carry out the necessary police procedures and, once completed, to be brought before the court.
