The Alaveses dive into the San Prudencio festivities
The countryside of Armentia is the centre of a festival that combines gastronomy, romeries, dances and children's events. At the institutional level, traumatologist and surgeon Mikel Sanchez will receive the Araba Medal from the Provincial Council.
The Alaveses celebrate one of their biggest days today, San Prudencio Day. The rain could not tarnish last night's toilet and today thousands of people will gather in the campsites of Armentia to enjoy this festival that combines gastronomy, dances, romeries or rural sports. In addition, the Araba medal will be awarded to traumatologist and surgeon Mikel Sanchez.
The day will begin around 09:00 in the morning with the San Prudencio Zortzikoon the steps of the palace of the Diputación Foral, where the txistularis, trumpeters and atabaleros of the foral institution will perform.
Events of the day
This will be the beginning of a festive day that will have its centre in the campsites of Armentia. And as for gastronomy, snails and mushrooms will be the main dish. Throughout the day, thousands of people will participate in the traditional romerie held around the basilica. Mass will take place at 11:00, the aurresku of honor at 12:00, and half an hour later the animation of fanfare and dance groups will begin.
Around Armentia there will be inflatables and children's animation, dance exhibitions and rural sports, and in the afternoon there will be concertsby Txapela Brava at 18:00 and Aldaia Larrein at 21:00.
As for the institutional events, the most special moment will be the reception that will take place at 13:00 in the afternoon at the Artium, where the Diputación Foral will deliver the Medal of Álava to traumatologist and surgeon Mikel Sanchez.
In addition, in the afternoon there will be a children's drum that will travel the central streets ofVitoria-Gasteiz from 17:00. One of the novelties of this year is the Euskal Gunea, a space that will host performances for several days in the Ark Square.
In addition to Vitoria, the Festivities of San Prudencio will reach other towns in Álava, such as Okondo, Artziniega, and Ayala.
