The award of the new hospital in Toulouse continues despite criticism of cuts by EH Bildu
Health Counselor Alberto Martínez has stated that the process is on the right track and hopes to award the project for the construction of the new hospital later this week, with the aim of starting work in 2028 and completing it in 2031. Meanwhile, EH Bildu Rebeka Ubera MP has strongly criticized the document and questioned whether all alternatives have been well studied.
Earlier this week, the Department of Health of the Basque Government will award the project for the new Public Hospital in Tolosa (Gipuzkoa), as announced on Monday by the Health Adviser, Alberto Martínez, who appeared before the Health Committee of the Basque Parliament at the request of EH Bildu to detail the functional plan for this infrastructure.
Martinez has assured that the new Toulouse Hospital will have "more services and specialties"and has argued that the future hospital - with an investment of more than EUR 100 million, a modern building with seven floors, 90 beds and four operating rooms - will" undoubtedly "improve the health service in the region.
According to the counsellor, rather than building a failed infrastructure, the idea is to expand "another model of care", so the new infrastructure will be based on coordinated care with the Donostialdea OSI and will be equipped with high technology such as MRIs and TACs.
EH Bildu denounces cuts
EH Bildu's MP, Rebeka Ubera, has criticized the document and warned that the Tolosaldea OSI will offer "fewer services than it has now" because some benefits have been cut or disappeared, thus questioning whether all alternatives have been well studied.
The project's timetable is now subject to municipal formalities. The Department of Health intends to begin in 2028 and end in 2031, as reported by the Health Counsellor, and the Toulouse City Council has already been officially asked to leave the land in Iurramendi to begin construction.
