The Town Hall of Donostia-San Sebastián has activated for the Big Week, from this Saturday until August 15, a preventive and precautionary device to deal with sexist aggression. The purple area of the Boulevard will offer information, awareness raising and specialized care during the holidays.
Equality Councilwoman Ane Oyarbide explained in the campaign presentation that the City Council works throughout the year to "prevent male violence, raise public awareness and make available existing care resources".
The main resource of the campaign will be a fixed information and attention point located at the Boulevard kiosk at the purple point, open daily from 11:00 to 15:00 and from 20:00 to 04:00.
In this space, "information will be provided on the prevention of sexist and sexual assault and specialized care and support resources will be provided to those in need, as well as outreach materials in different languages".
The councilman has stressed that "Big Week must bea space of coexistence, respect and freedom for all people. The City Council continues to increase preventive and care resources, because we want everyone to enjoy the holidays safely and without fear. "
Oyarbide has stressed that "the prevention of gender-based violence is a collective responsibility "and has stated that the aim of the campaign is" to disseminate preventive messages against sexist aggression, to promote equality between women and men and to promote an active attitude of rejection of any manifestation of male violence ", but also" to strengthen the ability of citizens to respond to possible situations of violence by promoting a culture of respect, consent and co-responsibility in public holidays ".
To this end, information materials will be distributed during the Big Week, with instructions on how to prevent situations of violence, identify behaviour and know municipal resources. The campaign also recalls the importance of "acting in the face of any sexist violence, supporting the victim, seeking help and activating the specialized resources available," Oyarbide said.
