The Dukes of Sussex, Harry and Meghan, return to the UK, but remain outside the Royal House
The Dukes of Sussex, Harry and Meghan, have decided to return to the UK, where they have enrolled their two children, Archie and Lilibet, in an unidentified school, where the couple will remain away from the Royal House and live outside London, according to British media.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have decided to reside in the UK with their children Archie and Lilibet, who will cease to be active members of the royal family eta more than six years after the couple have enrolled the two minors in a British school but have not yet revealed what it will be, according to local media theywill live outside London as private families without regaining institutional obligations.
Since 2020, when they left the UK and moved to California, the return has meant a change in the trajectory of the dukes. British media suggest that Harry and Meghan will not returnto work for the Royal House or take official office as representatives of the monarchy.
The decision follows a public explanation of the tension with several members of the royal family and the differences between them. The relationship with the institution deteriorated especially following the interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021.
Controversial interview with Oprah Winfrey
In that conversation, Meghan claimed that a member of the royal familyhad made comments about Archie's fur tone before he was born.
Meghan claimed that Catherine, the Princess of Wales, had made her cry during a test of bridesmaids' dresses before marrying Harry in 2018. According to her version, the information originally published told the story the other way around.
Then Elizabeth II responded by means of a statement stating that the issues raised would be dealt with privately and pointing out that some memories of what happened might be different.
Meghan's relationship with the staff of the Royal House was also the subject of controversy, as some British media reported allegations of harassment at work against the Duchess, which denied the facts.
Megxit and exit from the Royal House
The conflict had become apparent a year earlier, when Harry and Meghan announced their intention to depart from their official duties. In January 2020, Elizabeth II convened a meeting in Sandringham with the top family members to discuss the future of the dukes.
The deal ended with Harry and Meghan leaving their duties as active members of the monarchy, and in March of that year they left the UK for good and moved to California.
The Dukes of Sussexstopped receiving funding from the Prince ofWales at the time and started developing their own projects, including commercial contracts with Netflix and Spotify.
In 2021, Elizabeth II stripped Harry of military honorary titles and the protections of the Royal House.
Harry has rarely been to the UK.
After settling in the United States, Harry has rarely returned to the United Kingdom. Some of his visits have been linked to legal proceedings against certain media for publishing information about his private life.
The duke has also had a legal battle over the security measures he receives when he is in the UK.
In February 2024, Harry left for the country after learning that King Charles III was suffering from cancer. The meeting between the two was brief and lasted less than 45 minutes.
The publication of Harry's autobiography, 'Spare', once again fuelled the differences with his family. In the book, the duke claimed that his brother William had physically assaulted him during a dispute with Meghan and questioned Camila's performance.
British opinion
The return of the dukes, on the other hand, comes at a time of low popularity in the UK, with a YouGov poll published in July showing that 22% were in favour of Meghan, while 65% were negative.
In the case of Harry, 33% of respondents had a positive opinion, while 58% had a negative assessment.
For the time being , we do not know exactly where the dukes will live and what the school of Archie and Lilibet will be.
