The Spanish Public Prosecutor's Office will investigate the "crimes" committed by Israel in Gaza
Spanish Attorney General Alvaro García Ortiz speaks of "serious violations" of the Penal Code, including genocide and crimes against humanity.
The Attorney-General of Spain has ordered Israel to investigate crimes committed in the Gaza Strip since 7 October 2023, including genocide and crimes against humanity, and has appointed the Prosecutor of the Democratic Memory, Dolores Delgado, and the Chief Prosecutor of the National High Court, Jesús Alonso.
According to the decree of García Ortiz, to which Europa Press has had access, "the facts described would constitute serious violations of international human rights law and international humanitarian law, also contained in the Criminal Code", as crimes of genocide and against humanity.
On July 28, Delgado asked the Attorney General's permission to open an investigation with Alonso, to which García Ortiz's decree comes.
On the other hand, Garcia Ortiz has ordered that information on the investigation initiated be forwarded to the International Courtof Justice and the Prosecutor's Office ofthe International Criminal Court.
