EH Bildu has reached an agreement to incorporate the Basque language into customer service services
Inorder for the customer service to be provided in Basque, EH Bilduhas managed to introduce a number of amendments to the bill through an agreement with the parties that make up the Spanish Government.
According to the note published by the coalition, companies operating in Hego Euskal Herria must "ensurepersonalized attention in Basque "and customers must be able to "present any communication in Basque" when the amendments are approved.
They have "shielded the use of the Basque language in the key articles of the law" thanks to the agreement reached and have therefore stressed that these amendments "give effect to respect for the rights of Basque speakers ".
EH Bildu has describedtheagreement as a 'very important step' because the linguistic rights of Euskaldunes will be 'respected in a new and important area' and has stated that it is a step forward 'in continuing to extend the use of our language in more and more areas and relationships'.
The Coalition notes the amendments made to articles 7 and 8 of the Act.
Thus, on the one hand, "customers mayfile complaints and complaints in the official languages"in the case of companies providing services in the Autonomous Communities with several official languages.
On the other hand, companies must "ensurepersonalized care in Basque "in the Autonomous Communities with several official languages, so that" if the consumer or user so requests, attention will be provided in the official language requested ".
The two agreed measures shall enter into force if the procedure for the committee and the plenary in the coming weeks has been completed.
