The Spanish Government has confirmed its intention to extend discounts on public transport
Lakua has been in favour of maintaining bonuses on public transport and, if they are not extended, of implementing "its own road map".
The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility of the Spanish Government Ga0 is "interested"inextending the planned public transport discounts until 2026, as reported this Friday by the Councillor of the Basque Government a0Susana Garcia Chueca\u00A0a0u00u00u00A0
"We hope that this will be the case, because it would be very beneficial for the Basques, "García Chueca stressed at the plenary session of the Basque Parliament. These bonuses are regulated by a royal decree-law of the Spanish Government and should be renewed from 31 December.
The counsellor has insisted that if the Spanish Government approves this royal decree, Euskadi will extend the discounts "asit has done so far ", but if it does not, Lakua would study"its own road map".
"Our intention is to give a strong boost to the mobility system through progressive discounts aimed at rewarding the intensive use of public transport, which would improve access to groups with special needs such as young people, large families, persons with disabilities or those with low incomes," explained the Mobility Counsellor.
As an example of the government's commitment, García Chueca has pointed out that citizens have saved more than EUR 53 million in discounts on Euskotren and Renfe since 2022.
