The lehendakari, Imanol Pradales, has called on Europe to be "a global benchmark for democracy, prosperity, peace and freedoms" and has stressed that in the current situation "there is no middle ground" on the occasion of the 89 anniversary of the bombing of Gernika.
In the text published in LinkedIn, the president warns that "history is stubborn" and that "everything can happen again,"adding that "if we open the doors to a neo-perial world based on blocks of influence and areas of influence, we will be lost."
Pradales has emphasized "the strength of reason versus the reason of force," and compared historical threat messages like those of General Mola and Donald Trump, emphasizing that they show the same message at different times: the ability to destroy thousands of lives in a moment.
It has also referred to conflicts in Ukraine, Iran, Lebanon, Palestine, Sudan, Yemen or the Congo, stressing that wars lead to humanitarian crises such as mass displacement, human rights violations and irreparable losses.
On the other hand, he recalled the legacy of the first Basque Government chaired by José Antonio Agirre, stressing that he tried to guarantee the security of the population and "humanize war", and reaffirming his commitment to peace, human rights and the international order.
Finally, he has stressed that Europe's main task should be to defend these values and to warn that otherwise 'there will always be someone more powerful than us', and he has therefore called for the construction of a 'more and better Europe' based on peace, democracy and solid values.
