Esteban says the legislature "has come to an end" and calls for elections to be held this year
The president of the EBB believes that the political situation is "completely blocked" and believes that the "general interest" requires elections to be called. He also rules out that his party will push for a motion of censure against the president of the Spanish Government.
The president of the PNV EBB, Aitor Esteban, has stated in Bilbao that the legislature " has come to an end "and that" the general interest "demands that general elections be called later this year.
Before participating in a day organized by the Sabino Arana Foundation, Esteban recalled that it is up to the President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, to dissolve the Cortes. In this context, he has made it clear that the PNV will not push for a motion of censure.
The jeltzale leader has criticized the fact that the legislature is "completely blocked, with no budget" and "no chance of moving forward. "
He points out that the very dynamics of justice will cause this situation to continue for some time, which, in his view, undermines governance, and he also believes thatthe arrival of the uda will not bring about any change in the current political situation.
Esteban has argued that the "general interest" requires a call for elections, and that Pedro Sánchez should ask himself "whether by renouncing it he is not acting in a partisan and particular interest".
The President of the PNV has also warned that the political focus should not be on the parties that have supported the continuation of the legislature, but on the President of the Spanish Government.
In this regard, he has called for the responsibility of everyone, "especially the president," and has urged him not to act "like an ostrich, closing his eyes and declaring that nothing happens."
"A lot has happened in the last week and more will happen, "Esteban predicted.
Finally, asked about Judge Santiago Pedraz's investigation into an alleged plot to destabilize judicial cases affecting the PSOE or the Spanish Government, Esteban said that if these facts were confirmed, they would not be "acceptable."
