ErNE proposes to reform the Penal Code to tighten penalties for attacks on ertzainas and local police
The union of the Ertzaintza ErNE has proposed to amend the Penal Code in order to tighten the penalties for attacks and hate crimes against the Ertzaintza and other Basque police officers, an initiative which, according to the union, aims to strengthen the legal protection of agents in the face of the attacks, attacks and disrespect that have multiplied in recent weeks.
ErNE has explained that in recent weeks it has been holding meetings with the political groups represented in the Basque Parliament to present its proposal for a law. The union says that the initiative seeks to give greater support to the agents while strengthening respect for the authority and democratic coexistence .

The proposed measures include the tightening of penalties for hate crimes and attacks on members of the security forces, as well as measures in the field of education to value the work of professionals who ensure respect for authority, coexistence and public safety.
According to the union, in meetings with parliamentary groups, a "rigorous" and "well-founded" bill has been put forward, stating that several political parties have shown interest in the initiative.

On the other hand, ErNE reports that it is working in coordination with the Unified Police Union (SUP) and the Unified Civil Guards Association (AUGC) to also promote legislative change in the Congress of Deputies.
