Spain restores border controls on passengers from Italy
Port and airport controls will be in place until 7 September and will be carried out randomly in the face of migratory pressure from Italy.
The Spanish Government has temporarily re-established controls at internal borders for passengers from Italy at ports and airports, in accordance with which controls have been established in the face of the 'persistent illegal migratory pressure on Italy'.
Starting this Saturday.
The measure, which will enter into force at 00:00 this Saturday, 8 August, and which, in principle, will remain in force until 00:00 on 7 September, will be carried out randomly and the identity, passport and nationality of passengers will be checked.
In the case of third-country nationals, the visa or residence permit shall also be verified. The Government of Spain may change the time limit if the circumstances giving rise to the measure change.

The decision comes after Spain asked Italy to lift the suspension of the Schengen area, a measure that Italy imposed more than a week ago following the migration crisis in Ceuta. The Spanish Government gave Rome three days, until 9 August, to review the decision.
Spain warned that if Italy did not withdraw the measure, it would be obliged to take "proportionate measures to protect the interests and dignity of its citizens".
The Italian Government, however, has rejected the ultimatum and has stated that 'it does not accept ultimatums or impositions'. Rome will maintain until 15 August the suspension imposed on Spain under the Schengen Agreement.
Temporary measure
Border control will affect passengers arriving in Spain from Italy by sea or air. According to the Spanish Government, the measure is aimed at responding to the migration situation while the suspension of the Schengen area remains in force.
