Pradales will convene parties and socio-economic actors in September to discuss economics, self-government and housing
The aim of this new round of meetings, similar to the one held in 2024, is to address the second part of the legislature "through dialogue and the search for agreements between different parties." On the other hand, it has lamented the lack of cooperation in the humanitarian and political crisis in Ceuta.
Lehendakari Imanol Pradales announced on Thursday that he will convene political parties and socio-economic actors in the first half of September to discuss three areas of work: economy, self-government and housing, which he announced after the first Governing Council of the new political year at the Miramar Palace in Donostia.
In his speech, Pradales pledged to "respond to the concerns of the Basque people and continue to prepare our country for the future", thus focusing on what really matters.
Three areas of work
The first issue to be addressed at these meetings will be the economic situation and future prospects for growth and employment. In this context, Pradales will also share the general guidelines for the 2027 draft budget.
The second issue will be to "strengthen and expand" the Basque self-government in a "fundamental legislative way" to "expand or renew the regulatory powers of the Basque Country in 13 areas." Pradales will also report on the state of negotiations with the Spanish Government to complete the Gernika Statute.
The third will be the housing problem, sharing the broad outlines of the Social Housing Fund, which will try to combine public investment with private input, as well as industry and the Basque Country.
Strengthening dialogue between different
The aim of this new round of meetings, similar to the one held in 2024, is to address the second part of the legislature "on the basis of dialogue and the search for agreements", setting aside "sterile conflicts of no benefit to the Basque people" and promoting new spaces for participation and negotiation.
In this context, the lehendakari has expressed his desire to promote agreements beyond the current parliamentary majorities. "Faced with a scenario of maximum international uncertainty and the new electoral cycle that opens in 2027, it is necessary to share a diagnosis of the situation, strengthen the climate of dialogue and contribute to the search for agreements in the Basque Country."
Ceuta humanitarian crisis
The President also regretted the lack of agreement and cooperation to deal adequately with the humanitarian and political crisis in Ceuta, a management in which 'we are seeing a failure of Europe, a government that has not responded effectively and an opposition that is not in place'.
Pradales therefore calls on all parties involved to provide an "effective and humane response" to this migration crisis, which means "speed, transparency, cooperation and unity," he said.
