In fact, in 1936, Franco's supporters formed that first government in the midst of a coup d'état and war. Together with President José Antonio Agirre, 10 councillors from different political parties were sworn in under the Gernika Tree. During their tenure, the foundations of the institutions of the community we know today were laid.
With these acts, the Basque Government expresses its desire to bring to the future the principles that inspired them (democracy, freedom and social justice).
October 7 marks 90 years since the creation of the first Basque Government chaired by lehendakari José Antonio Agirre
Representatives of different ideologies joined forces to form the first Basque Government. Anternational, the heaviest councillors were the jeltzales Leizaola, Monzón and De la Torre.
