Strikes

The main railway unions (CC. OO., UGT and Semaf of train drivers) will continue the strike called for next week, from 9 to 11 February.

The head of Education of ELA, Mira Zubizarreta, has recalled that the agreement of February 2024 came after 14 days of strike and that, at present, some of the "relevant contents" that were signed in that agreement "are not being complied with by the employers".

Today, January 15, 2026, the Government will decide whether the conditions for attending tomorrow's meeting of the Joint Transfer Commission are in place; the doctors in Osakidetza will have a second day of strike, after yesterday's, to demand their own status; and the farmers and farmers in Hego Euskal Herria will make a tractor march towards Biriatu. 

The unions have called off the indefinite strike, in agreement with the management, after 83 days of unemployment.

The Second Vice-President of the Basque Government and Adviser for Economy, Employment and Labour has asked the unions and employers to sit down and talk because  "is always dialogue, the best solution to reach agreements".

Tomorrow, Monday, the stops will begin, but without mobilization, but on Tuesday and Thursday there will be rallies at 14:15, with shift changes outside the factory.

According to the unions, more than three million people joined the general strike - which employs 5.1 million people - and which they have described as "one of the most successful strikes ever carried out" in Portugal. Portuga employers say that the strike has failed and only 3% of the workers have stayed at home.

The follow-up is therefore similar to that on Wednesday in the same shift (19.02%) and somewhat higher than on Tuesday (17.26%). At noon, dozens of health workers concentrated at the gates of the Txagorritxu Hospital in Vitoria-Gasteiz to claim their own status. 

In the face of the attacks on the Euskera, the youth organization Ikama wants to bring the importance of education to the front line with today's strike, calling for "a model of its own, Euskaldun and quality".

The doctors who took part in today's mobilization have been at the gates of Donostia Hospital for more than half an hour with two placards with the slogan "For a medical and medical status" and several against 24-hour guards.

The Medical Union of the Basque Country shall strike against the draft Framework Statute. In the face of negotiations, a Statute of its own has been promulgated, which alone may reflect the specific characteristics of the profession and defend a specific regulation.

The Bureau aims to improve the working conditions of all workers in the National Health System, health and non-health, "without exception, without privileges and without distortions". They criticize the fact that the Ministry is negotiating the Statute in parallel with medical unions.

The protests will take place from Monday to Thursday. On the one hand, stops have been called from 11:00 to 12:00. On the other hand, rallies will be held at 11:15, depending on the day on one campus or another.

The convening unions (UGT, LAB, CCOO, ELA) have recalled that the Navarra sector agreement, which affects 5,000 workers, dates back 17 years. They have warned that negotiations with the ANET employers are "blocked" and that with this strike day they want to press for meetings to be convened. 

UGT, CCOO, ELA and LAB are calling for the truck drivers to stop from 22:00 this evening until 22:00 on Monday, so that the unions will press for further negotiations on the agreement, which has not been renewed for 17 years.

The group has called for stops from 9:00 to 12:00 and the demonstration will end in front of the Bilbao City Council to denounce the "unfair competition" of VTC services.

Senior technicians and health specialists have had a fourth dayof strike throughout the state to report that university degrees in Europe are acquired through vocational training in the Spanish state.  In addition to this, they request recognition of a professional profile distinct from the nursing treatment and follow-up professions.
