While the President of the United States is pushing for negotiations for the departure of the Israeli army from southern Lebanon, Israeli troops have opened fire on the Lebanese army as a "warning."

The US has been carrying out attacks on Iran for several days on charges of violating the agreement of understanding. Tehran, however, has denied the charge, denounced repeated breaches of the ceasefire and responded with attacks against US interests in the region.

Benjamin Netanyahu has announced that, following the agreement reached in Washington, Israeli forces in southern Lebanon will withdraw from two areas, while Hezbollah has rejected the agreement.

The operation is under investigation and no further details have been released. The armed wing of the Lebanese group is on the European Union's list of terrorist organisations, not the entire party.

However, the Shia militia understands this agreement as a "step before the total liberation" of the territory and has called on the Lebanese political forces to "a common national position" to protect the country's sovereignty over Israel, although it is clear to Israel that it will not withdraw its armed forces from southern Lebanon for the time being.

"Israel sprayed several Lebanese border towns with glyphosate on 1 February 2026," the local government said in a letter to UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres and the UN Security Council.

At least two people have been killed and 20 injured in the Israeli attack. In response, Iran fired missiles at Israel tonight, triggering alerts in "several areas of the country."

Contacts since 14 April have served to gradually accept and extend the ceasefire, but Israel has broken the truce and intensified its invasion of Lebanon in response to shells fired by Hezbollah, which it believes is opposed to negotiations.

According to the US president, an agreement could be reached next week to end the war in Iran and open the Strait of Hormuz. On the contrary, Tehran has announced the suspension of talks with Washington . 

"I have had a very fruitful call with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, no troops are going to Beirut, and those on the way are back," Trump explained in a social media message.

Despite the ceasefire, Israel's Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has in recent hours ordered the army to bomb the Beirut region of Hezbollah as its stronghold.

In mid-April, Israel established a "yellow line" (such as the one it applies in Gaza) that runs about ten kilometres from the border between the two countries, and the perimeter between them was invaded by Israeli troops.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has stated that the occupation of Beaufort Castle is a "crucial milestone" as well as Israel's "radical change of policy" in Lebanon .

Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has also ordered the Israeli army to control 70% of the Gaza Strip.

The negotiations aim to establish a ceasefire and lay the foundations for a peace treaty. In this regard, Beirut calls for the withdrawal of Israeli troops and the disarmament of the Hezbollah group by Israel.

The European Union's High Representative for Foreign Policy, Kaja Kallas, believes that these two missions would protect maritime transport in the Strait on the one hand and strengthen the Lebanese Army on the other.

Representatives of Israel and Lebanon will hold the third round of peace talks in Washington, USA, on 14 and 15 May, a US State Department official reported on Thursday.

U.S. President Donald Trump has announced the news following a meeting with representatives of both countries at the White House and has stressed that he expects the Israeli Prime Minister and the Lebanese President in Washington in the short term. 

He has highlighted America's "key" role in the negotiations and urged Washington to "press" Israeli representatives.

A White House spokesperson has reported that Israel and Lebanon will begin a second round of negotiations on 23 April, which will be resumed by Washington.
