Denmark announces it will strengthen its military presence in Greenland with its NATO allies

Asa result of the escalation of tensions in the Arctic, the Danish Ministry of Defence has announced that it will intensify its military presence and manoeuvres in Greenland from this Wednesday, in cooperation with NATO allies.
"The aim is to train in the capacity to act under special conditions in the Arctic and to strengthen the Alliance's capacity in the Arctic for the benefit of both Europeanand transatlantic security, "Defense said in a statement, adding that there will also be more" aircraft, ships and soldiers, as well as NATO allies "on and around the island.
Among the activities to be carried out this year,the Danish authorities have mentioned the protection of essential facilities for the community, assistance to the authorities (including the police), the reception of allied troops, the deployment of fighters and military tasks for the Navy.
The Arctic Command(responsible for the defence of the autonomous territories of the Danish Greenland and the Faroe Islands) "shall constantly inform the Greenlanders of its activities and shall maintain close contact with the relevant authorities and actors of Greenland."
Defence recalls that last summer it increased its presence on the island with various initiatives and mentions manoeuvres with four other NATO countries (France, Norway, Sweden and Germany), among others.
"Arctic security is essential for the Kingdom of Denmark and our allies, and that is why it is important to further strengthen our capacity to act together with our allies in theregion, "Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen said in a statement.
Denmark has announced agame of around EUR 6 billion (USD 42 billion) over the past year to directly strengthen Greenland's defencewith more ships, satellites and drones, among others.
The Danish Defence Minister reiterated on Tuesday that Copenhagen is prepared to increase its military presence in the Arctic. Indeed, the US has reproached it for the supposedly increasing presence of Russian and Chinese vessels.
Several European countries, led by the United Kingdom and Germany, said this week that they are considering increasing NATO's presence on the island to try to reassure US President Donald Trump.
Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen and his Greenland counterpart, Vivian Motzfeldt, will meet this Wednesday at the White House with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, whose host will be Vice President JD Vance.
