Osakidetza doctors have started two days of strike to demand their own status
Some 9,000 professionals are called to unemployment today and tomorrow. There will also be mobilizations in several hospitals in Hego Euskal Herria.
Osakidetza doctors have started a 48-hour strike to demand the opening of their own statute and a specific negotiating table. The Basque Medical Union has denounced that , followinglast December's stoppages, the Spanish Ministry of Health has made no rapprochement, which has led to further mobilizations.
The Trade Union has stressed that the group has working conditions, health risks and difficulties of conciliation not covered by the current Framework Statute. Its main demands include the gradual reduction of guards, the consideration of voluntary and extraordinary work, the calculation of all working time for retirement and the recognition of years of MIR training in the career.
The mobilizations are taking place in different places. In San Sebastián, doctors have demonstrated from 7:30 on the route between the Donostia University Hospital and the Onkologikoa, which has led to withholding. In Bilbao, the rally will take place at 11:00 a.m. at the gates of the Cruces Hospital, while in Pamplona a demonstration has been called at 7:00 p.m.
Nestor Morchon, Vice-President of the Basque Medical Union, warns that, in the absence of progress, they do not rule out an indefinite strike. According to official data, previous calls did not exceed 20% follow-up in Osakidetza, but on this occasion there are about 9,000 professionals called to unemployment.
With regard to minimum services, primary care shall have at least one doctor per centre; hospital care shall operate as a holiday and emergency, surgery and oncology shall be maintained at 100 per cent.
