Doctors have taken a further step in their claims, and some have begun to stop doing overtime
The doctors at Osakidetza and Osasunbidea are informing their superiors that they will not perform the voluntary overtime that doctors do in the afternoon and that helps reduce waiting lists, known as "pawns," which will mean, among other things, a reduction in afternoon surgeries.
In the context of the protests that doctors have been making over the past few months to demand their statutory framework and the improvement of working conditions, many doctors have begun to take a further step and to stop doing voluntary overtime , which is common among doctors.
The so-called "peonadas" are the overtime that doctors voluntarily do in the evenings, which helps reduce waiting lists. However, seeing that their demands are not heard or taken into account, many have decided to take this step.
Individually, Osakidetza and Osasunbidea are being informed that they will not perform these afternoon overtime, which has already led to the cancellation of some consultations, as well as fewer surgeries affecting more health personnel.
They have explained that this is a movement that started spontaneously in Galicia and is spreading throughout the state, spreading through networks and medical groups.
The Medical Union of the Basque Country has stated that, since these hours are voluntary, whether or not they are done is a decision of each doctor and that "whatever the decision is, we will respect it, it cannot be otherwise".
Doctors are still on strike and in the Basque Country and Navarre, for the time being, the week from 27to 30 April is called to strike.
