Osakidetza calls for flu vaccination, warning that the contagion curve can be advanced
The Department of Health has reported a "significant increase" in influenza cases in recent weeks, especially in Bizkaia, which "suggests that the epidemiological curve could be advanced."
has called
on the population to be vaccinated against influenza in the hope that the contagion curve will be advanced, since in the last week, especially in Bizkaia, there has been a "significant increase" in cases. Since Osakidetza launched the flu vaccination campaignon 6 October, 202 015 people have already been immunized in the ACV and 80,000 more have been called to receive serum in the coming days. The Department of Health has recalled the importance of "early protection" against these respiratory diseases, especially in vulnerable people, who may have the greatest complications in the event of infection.
Osakidetza has recalled that "the vaccine is the best way to prevent health complications and has been encouraged to do so as soon as possible, as the incidence of influenza is expected to increase gradually in the coming weeks. "
Taking into account the number of cases accumulated in the first three weeks of the campaign (1120 cases), including the first of the residences, it is significantly higher than the previous two campaigns (410 cases 24 and 331 cases in the first three weeks), which suggests advancing the epidemiological curve of the cases, and the number of hospitalizations is also higher than those recorded in 2024.
In particular, the campaign has resulted in 131 hospital admissions due to influenza, a figure that reached mid-November.
Osakidetza recommends making an appointment, either by calling the reference health center via the phone or via the website. In October, priority will be given to flu vaccination among the target population.
The campaign targets people aged 60 or over; children aged 6 months to 5 years (up to 59 months); people with immunosuppression or chronic pathology (lung, heart attack, diabetes); and pregnant women.
Once the target population is vaccinated, an appointment will be opened to the rest of the population in early November.
