More dead boars found in Catalonia linked to swine plague cases
The plan to catch wild boars infected with the African swine plague was reinforced this Sunday in the Collserola area of Barcelona, and it is not ruled out that another animal is found dead in the area.
A number of dead boars were found this Sundayin the Collserola Mountain Range (Barcelona) after the bodies of the animal sei of that species were found in the vicinity of the African swine epidemic (PPA) earlier this week.
In the last few hours, and as part ofthe monitoring and control work under way to stop the outbreak of the plague as soon as possible, more bodies have been found in the Catalan municipality of Cerdanyola del Valles . These animals will be tested for PPA deaths.
This very Sunday security has been strengthened, so it is not ruled out that other animals may be found dead in the area due to illness.
Similarly, the Generalitat does not rule out requesting assistance from the Military Emergency Unit (EMU) to halt the deployment of the Emergency Plan and has urged the population not to enter the Collserola Mountains (Barcelona) in order to stop the outbreak as soon as possible.
In addition, catches of potential wild boars infected with the African swine epidemic have been launched around Collserola, Barcelona, with the installation of animal traps, repellents and fences to prevent the spread of the disease to other areas.
In this context, the Basque Government has sent a message of reassurance to the population because this disease isnot a dangerto human health, either because of contact or because of the consumption of pork.
