Israel is considering Hamas's response to the ceasefire plan as famine continues to increase
According to the latest data provided by the Gaza authorities, 115 people have already died from malnutrition. The plan on the table proposes a 60-day ceasefire and the release of 10 Israeli hostages alive.
The only paediatric center that treats malnutrition in northern Gaza is full of mothers and children.
The Israeli Government is considering the final response that Hamas sent this morning to the mediators (Qatar, Egypt and the United States) on the ceasefire planfor Gaza.
Hamas itself has confirmed that it has issued a reply, but has not reported its contents. On the other hand, Prime Minister Netanyahu's office has issued a brief note stating that it is "reviewing" that response.
The agreement that has been put on the table includes a 60-day ceasefire , during which Hamas and Israel will have to negotiate to extend it and make it permanent. On the other hand, in those two months, Hamas would have tohand over the remains of 10 freed hostages eta 14 dead in exchange for the release of Palestinian prisoners.
In total, Hamas still has 50 prisoners, about 20 of whom Israel believes are alive.
Local media, citing a senior Israeli official who has evaluated Hamas's response, have claimed that this is a "text in which Israel can work." However, Israeli Channel 12 has said that the agreement will not be quick because the gap between the parties is large.
Both sides face the highpressure from both sides and from abroad, while humanitarian conditions inside Gaza deteriorate and air and ground attacks continue.
The authorities in the Gaza Strip have published on Thursday thatthere arealready 115 people killed by hunger and malnutrition.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has warned that "the data collected show that malnutrition in Gaza has reached very critical limits." "16% of the 15,000 children surveyed to detect malnutrition had extreme malnutrition," and "more than 95% consume two or fewer food groups."
Since the start of the offensive against Gaza, Israel has killed more than 59,200 Palestinians, but the number is estimated to be higher. The offensive has been in response to attacks by Hamas on 7 October 2023, when 1,200 Israelis were killed and 250 abducted.
