The Kremlin wants to reduce tension with the White House: "There can be no winners in a nuclear war."
Russian President Dmitri Peskov's spokesman recalled that Putin is the one who marks foreign policy and the only valid interlocutor for the US leader, with clear reference to Dmitri Medvedev.
The Kremlin has today attempted to reduce nuclear tension with the United States, where last Friday Washington launched two atomic submarines into the sea in the face of an alleged threat from Russia, while Moscow has ruled out a military escalation between the two superpowers.
On the other hand, Russia has offered to receive White House envoy Steve Witkoff before the end of this week of the 10-day ultimatum given by US President Donald Trump to stop the war in Ukraine.
"There can be no victors in a nuclear war. That is probably our main position," Presidential spokesman Dmitri Peskov stressedtoday at his daily press conference.

In his first statements since Trump announced it on Friday, the Russian government has today tried to soften its discussion with Trump and added that "as far as nuclear rhetoric is concerned, everyone should be very careful" .

Indeed, Peskov has stressed that Moscow does not believe that there will be "a nuclear escalation" between the two powers, so he added that "we would not like to be involved in this controversy."
"It is clearly a very complex and sensitive issue, and of course many respond aggressively," he explains.
Peskov has stressed that "America's nuclear submarines are always on alert, that's a constant."
On the other hand, Russia has said that it will be pleased to welcome US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff " on Wednesday or Thursday, "as Trump advanced." We are always pleased to see Mr. Witkoff in Moscow and to be in touch with him. We find the meetings important, significant and very useful, "Peskov said.
It will be Witkoff's fifth visit to Russia in 2025. So far, Putin has always received the US special envoy at the Kremlin Palace.
Meanwhile, Medvedev has disappeared from social media (X and Telegram). He has been inactive on social media since July 31.
