Mohamed VI says Morocco has opened "a new chapter" after its plan for Western Sahara has received UN support
The King of Morocco has called on the Saharans refugees in Tindouf to take advantage of this "historic opportunity" to "meet their families" and has urged the Algerian President to engage in "honest and fraternal dialogue".
King Mohamed VI A declared on Friday that Morocco has opened a "new and victorious chapter" after half a century of conflict with Western Sahara, in which the UN Security Council supports Morocco's autonomy plan, and has addressed the Algerian president to call for a "sincere and fraternal dialogue" between the two countries.
"After 50 years of sacrifices, we have opened a new triumphant chapter in the process of disseminating Moroccan identity in the Sahara, with the aim of ending this artificial conflict once and for all through an agreed solution based on the Autonomous Initiative, "he said in a televised speech to the people.
"We are experiencing a decisive moment and a turning point in the modern history of Morocco: from now on there will be a moment before and after 31 October 2025. From Tangier comes the moment of a united Morocco that will extend to La Agüera (the northern end of Western Sahara)," he said.
Mohamed VI has confirmed that Rabat "is entering a crucial phase" as the UN resolution "sets out the principles and foundations that will lead to a definitive political resolutionof the conflict ".
In this context, he has called on the refugees in the Tindouf camps in Algeria to take advantage of this "historic opportunity" to "reunite with their families." In his words, the approved plan "allows them to develop their homeland and build a future in a united Morocco."
"As king, as guarantor of the rights and freedoms of citizens, I sincerely say that all Moroccans are equal and that there is no difference between those who have returned from the camps in Tindouf and the brothers and sisters who live in the rest of the national territory," he said.
On the other hand, the Algerian President has also addressed Abdelmayid Tebun. has invited a "sincere and fraternal dialogue" between Morocco and Algeria to "be able to lay the foundations for new relations based on trust, fraternity and good neighbourhood over differences."
Finally, he made special mention of his "friend"Donald Trump and said that America's efforts "have paved the way for a definitive solution to this conflict."
It also conveys its "deepest thanks to all Arab and African countries that have expressed their unconditional support for the Moroccan identity of the Sahara and for the countries of the world supporting the initiative".
