NASA released a photograph on Sunday of the hidden side of the Moon, taken by the crew of the Artemis II mission, which is close to its destination, a few hours after reaching the orbit of the natural satellite for the first time in five decades.
The image shows the Moon backwards, with the South Pole facing upwards, and the full view of the East Moon Basin the first time human eyes have seen it intact, the US space agency said.
The Eastern Basin will be under constant scrutiny by Commander Reid Wiseman and astronauts Victor Glover, Christina Koch and Jeremy Hansen. When the crew passes through the hidden part of the moon, it will lose radio communication with the mission's checkpoint for 40 minutes.
After ten days of adventure, the four astronauts will arrive on the coast of San Diegoon Friday , when the Orion capsule will sink into the sea.
