Political parties agree on the need to renew the Gernika Statute on the 46th anniversary of the text

Although the parties in the Basque Country were divided when the Basque people voted on the text, the picture is now different:the overall assessment is positive. However, all the political parties have stressed the need to renew the text.
Aitor Esteban, leader of EAJ-PNV, has expressed the hope that the Spanish Government will make progress in the negotiations before the end of the year. Esteban has recalled that a "timetable" for the transfer of competences was established and that the Spanish Government will have to keep its word.
On the other hand, EH Bilduhas held a political event in the monolith of Amaiur (Navarre), "symbol of national resistance".
In it, Pello Otxandiano, spokesman for EH Bildu , and Laura Aznal, spokesperson for Navarre, have stressed the need to improve self-government and fortitude.
According to the abertzale coalition, the time has come to advance "the sovereignty of this people."

The Basque People's Party has gathered on the Gernika tree to pay tribute to the Statute.
Javier de Andrés,president of the party, has made it clear that there is no "independence" in the new agreement and has advocated a Statute that "thinks about people's freedom."
Finally, Podemos Euskadihas stressed the value of the Gernika Statute for the development of self-government, and has wanted to make it clear that this characteristic "should not strengthen the privileges of the economic elites as the PNV understands it".
