San Sebastian City Council has placed a plaque in memory of Rosa Zarra, who died after being hit by the Ertzaintza
So far, the City Council has placed 37 plates to "give visibility in the public space to those who were victims of terrorism and politically motivated violence".
The City Council of Donostia-San Sebastián has placed aplaqueon Saturday in memory of Rosa Zarra Marín, 58, who died from the Ertzaintzarubber ball in 1995.
The ceremony took place at twelve o'clockin the square of Olaeta in Amaraberri, where the husband and children of Zarra were present, who left roses on the plaque.
Along with them, other families who have denounced police violence, including relativesof Iñigo Cabacas, Xuhar Pazos and Amaia Zabarte, have joined the tribute.
Relatives have accused the Basque Government of "impunity" in the face of "truth and justice".
In addition, Jon Insausti, Mayor of San Sebastian, and representatives of municipal groups have participated in the tribute.
Thus, the City Council already has 37 plates to give visibility in the public space within the initiative "Victims of terrorism and politically motivated violence who lost their lives in the city".
Specifically, the City Council has placed plates for victims of ETA (29), victims of the Autonomous Anti-Capitalist Commands (3), victims of DRIL (1), victims of the Spanish Basque Battalion (1) and victims of police actions (3).
Police violence
It is 30 years since the death of Rosa Zarra. The 58-year-old woman was in a mobilization in June 1995when she was hit by a rubber ball from the Ertzaintza near the Reale Arena stadium.
Eight days later, Zarra died in the hospital .
Last March, the Basque Government described the case of Rosa Zarra Marín as a 'victim of police violence'.
