Pradales and Ubarretxena will decide on Thursday whether the conditions for meeting the Joint Transfer Commission are met
The meeting with the Spanish Government is scheduled for Friday. The Lehendakari and Counsellor will first assess compliance with the "necessary guarantees" for the signing of the transfer. As EITB has been aware, there are "constant contacts to reach an agreement" and "progress" has been made.
As EITB has learned, the President, Imanol Pradales, and the Councillor for Governance, Digital Administration and Self-Government, Maria Ubarretxena, will decide on Thursdaywhether thedelegation of the Basque Government will go to the Joint Transfer Commission , which will meet on Friday, January 16.
Sources from the Basque Government have confirmed to EITB that they are in constant contact these days with the Spanish Government "to try to reach an agreement" with the aim of "signing transfers this Friday". They are working "against the clock", "exchanging proposals" and acknowledging that they have managed to bring positions closer together.
Pradales and Ubarretxena are expected to come to the meeting with a "draft agreement" so they can make a decision.
The date of the Joint Commission was originally set by both parties for 29 December, but it had to be postponedbecause there was no guarantee that the political agreements reached in July 'would be fully and faithfully implemented'. The Basque Government saw differences in funding and transfers inthe field of Social Security.
Over the past week, the PNV councillors of the Basque Government have warned of the difficulties of implementing the five transfers agreed , so Counsellor Ubarretxena herself warned that the meeting of the Joint Commission was "in the air" and the vice president Ibone Bengoetxea described the situation as "worrying".
In this situation, this Wednesday President Aitor Esteban PNV has warned that his party's "position will change" if Sanchez fails to comply with "what is signed and agreed."
However, this Wednesday the second Vice-President and Counsellor for Economy, Labour and Employment Mikel Torres socialist believes that the agreement can be closed today, late in the afternoon, and that they will be in a position to hold an assembly on Friday.
