The Spanish Government has requested the extraordinary hearings of the four ministers to report on the migration crisis that began on 30 July in Ceuta.
On Friday, the Spanish Government requested the extraordinary hearings of Ministers Margarita Robles, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, Félix Bolaños and José Manuel Albares in the Congress of Deputies to report on the management of the migration crisis in Ceuta.
The hearings shall be held at the request of the Ministers in the Defence, National Security, Home Affairs and Foreign Affairs Committees, respectively.
Hearings, 25-28 August
The Government proposes that the Minister of Defence, Margarita Robles, should appear on 25 August; the Minister of the Presidency, Justice and Relations with the Courts, Félix Bolaños, on 27 August; and the Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, on 28 August.
According to the Government, the four ministers shall report on their activities "within the scope of their powers "in connection with events in Ceuta since 30 July.
Response to the PP's request
The decision comes after the People's Party requested ministers to appear in Congress and the Senate on Thursday.
The Government has stated that, in order to "avoid duplication" and given the scale of the crisis, it has decided to hold hearings in the Congress of Deputies in August as a constitutionally priority chamber.
Meanwhile, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez will hold a telematic meeting this Friday with Ministers Margarita Robles, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, Elma Saiz and Sira Rego to discuss developments in the migration crisis in Ceuta.
