Ertzaintza unions condemn attacks on police officers, calling for more means
The unions ErNE, Euspel and Sipe have denounced that attacking a police officer cannot become "normal" and have called for "institutional support" and strengthening the working group.
The trade unions of the Ertzaintza have condemned this weekend's attacks on agents of the Ertzaintza in various municipalities of the ACV Ertzaintza,callingfor more means and greater "institutional support".
A total of nine officers were injuredin the riots in Eibar, Vitoria and Arrasate, and 14 people were arrested.
ErNE calls for a "strong response"
In a statement, the ErNE union warned that attacking a policeman "cannot become normal or relativized," and stressed that violence against officers " deserves a strong response from institutions and society as a whole. "
It therefore calls on the Department of Safety and Security to strengthen the material resources made available to officers and to promote "adequate, sustained and adapted training to new situations of risk and violence".
Euspel calls for strengthening the workforce
In similar terms, the Euspel trade union has called ina statement for greater resources and protection, both from the institutions and from the judiciary.
"It is not enough to condemn every attack when it has already occurred. It is essential to strengthen the workforce, provide more resources and ensure a safe and effective response," he added.
SIPE denounces a situation of "helplessness"
Finally, the Professional Union of the Ertzaintza (SIPE) has denounced that the Department of Safety and Security has created a "situation of helplessness" of the officers, and has therefore requested the resignationof Counsellor Bingen Zupiria.
"If he is unable to guarantee the protection of his police, he must assume his political responsibility," he said, concluding by calling for "more officers, more means, more protection."
