The Counsellor has pointed out that the fact that this has happened at the Faculty of Law and Criminology is even more serious. She believes that this is an attack on freedom of expression, that it is a fundamental right, and has ensured that such events are only part of a campaign to delegitimize the Ertzaintza as an institution and a culture of coercion that has persisted.

Some students in the criminology course protested that these agents wouldn't give a lecture, and the teachers decided to abandon the dynamic.

The presentation was attended by Juan Ignacio Pérez Iglesias, Counsellor for Science, Universities and Innovation; Juana Goizueta, Vice-Rector of the Gipuzkoa campus of the UPV/EHU; and Javier Aizpurua, Director of the Basque Quantum. Access to the virtual visit can be obtained through the QR codes installed in the physical totems of the tour.

The Álava campus of the University of the Basque Country/Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea has become the first university area to join the Network of Smoke-free Centres, created by the Basque Government in 2021 in collaboration with the Basque Country Forales Deputies and Municipalities, with the aim, among other objectives, of preventing the start of consumption of derivatives such as tobacco and vaporizers.

On 22 October, the registration deadline for the workshops and didactic courses of the three Basque capitals and Barakaldo will be opened.

In a statement, the Student Council has explained that the call for an academic stoppage has been aimed at facilitating the cessation of violence and participation in demonstrations calling for the protection of the human rights of the Palestinian people.

Under the slogan "UPV with Palestine. Stop Genocide", the rallies convened by the EHu rectory team have been held from 11 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. on the three university campuses.

A UPV/EHU study concludes that levels of PFAS chemical compounds found in minors do not pose a serious health risk, but warns of the need to strengthen surveillance. 

In the words of Rector Joxerramon Bengoetxea, "the issue of the genocide of the Palestinian people is a priority" for the UPV-EHU. He recalled that in April 2024 they agreed "to break off relations with universities and institutions that do not condemn the crimes being committed against humanity in Palestine." 

The rector of the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), Joxerramon Bengoetxea, has insisted on Wednesday that "the issue of the genocide of the Palestinian people is a priority in our university" and has implied that the UPV has in recent months renounced research projects worth 247 million euros in the field of biomedicine or computer science because of their connection with the State of Israel.

At his hearing, Bengoetxea urged the European Commission and the Spanish Government to exclude universities, research centres and institutions in Israel from European research cooperation funds, academic or cultural. 

Of the two laboratories selected in the Spanish state to collect samples taken on Mars, one belongs to the UPV. From the analysis of these samples, this laboratory at the Leioa campus will be able to determine whether or not there has been life on Mars. 

The Department of Health of the Basque Government and Osakidetza have identified 70 contacts that will be reviewed and monitored in the coming days.

Asked about the incidents at the opening ceremony of the 2025-2026 course, UPV/EHU Rector Joxerramon Bengoetxea has stated that the insults received by some of the participants in the event are "deplorable. They frustrated the message of solidarity that our university prepared for Gaza," added Bengoetxea.

During the rally, convened by the Ikasle Abertzaleak group, several people have come together to demand that Israel boycott and accuse the UPV and the Basque Government of being "complicit in the genocide".

Joxerramon Bengoetxea , in his first opening act as rector, has advocated to promote the social commitment and internationalization of the university. Lehendakari Carlos Garaikoetxea, former rector Nekane Balluerka and former footballer Jose Angel Iribar have received gold medals for their work.

Protesters call for a boycott of Israel and accuse the Basque Government and the UPV of being "accomplices to the genocide." On the arrival of lehendakari Pradales there have been cries and even moments of tension, so the start of the event has been delayed by a few minutes. Representatives of the institutions and the university that attended the event have been silent waiting for the end of the screams.

A few years ago there was a marked economic difference between living in a residence or taking a rental apartment with other students. The second option was much cheaper. Today, however, this gap has been narrowed due, among other things, to the prices of flats in the Basque capitals. However, it is clear that by the end of August the most difficult thing is to find a place at any opportunity. 

The company has been transporting and bringing students from Vitoria-Gasteiz to the campuses in Bizkaia for four decades, but they argue that the service is not economically viable.
