A series of tips to deal with extreme temperatures
The Basque Government has warned that the heat accumulated in the last few days and planned until the end of the week necessarily requires an increase in preventive measures, for which it has published a number of recommendations:
The Basque Government has warned that the heat we have experienced these days and the foreseeable after-care needs to be increased and has called for attention to health measures, which have also set an orange alertin the Basque Country for this Tuesday.
The Department of Health has recalled in a statement that yesterday, Monday, 15 people were treated for a heat shock, in which context it has called for "greater attention" for the next few hours and published a series of recommendations, which are as follows:
- Be very careful with vulnerable people: children under 4, the elderly, pregnant women and people with chronic illnesses.
- Get in touch frequently with older people who live alone.
- Remember to leave no one in thevehicle .
- Never put children under 6 months in the sun.
- Avoid exposureto the sun in the hours of the day.
- Protect yourself with hats and sunglasses and sunscreen.
- Wear light clothes .
- Avoidintense physical activity , especially during the warmest hours.
- Take enough waterfor long hiking.
- For more than an hour in the face of symptoms (weakness, fatigue, dizziness, nausea, blurred vision),go to the doctor .
- Keepthe windows and blinds shutat home and cool down at night.
- Do notuse Appliancesor appliances that produce heat in the warmest hours.
- When the temperature exceeds 35ºC, turn offthe electric fans , is not useful for preventing heat related diseases.
- Take a cold shower or bath and refresh your body, especially your face and hands.
- U and liquids drink often even when you're not thirsty.
- Avoid caffeine , alcohol or sugar-rich drinks .
- Increase the consumptionofsalads, vegetables and fruits to replenish mineral salts lost by sweat.
