The peace process for Armenia and Azerbaijan has been declared closed following the Washington agreement
After the 2020 war, Nagorno conquered the Azerbaijani part of Karabakh and ended with the expulsion of 120,000 inhabitants of Armenian origin.
TheMinisterial Council of the Organization for Security and CooperationinEurope (OSCE) has declared the peace process for the Nagorny Karabakh conflict closed after more than three decades following the recent normalization agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan in Washington.
This Armenian enclave on the territory of Azerbaijan confronted the two Caucasian countries, and since 1992the "Minsk process" led by Russia, France, and the US has tried in vain to reach a peace agreement between the two sides.
After the 2020 war, which ended with the conquest of the Azerbaijani part of Nagorny Karabakh and the expulsion of its 120,000 inhabitants of Armenian origin , a historic peace agreement was reached between the parties last August, under the mediation of the United States.
The rotating president of the OSCE, Elina Valtonen, the Finnish foreign minister, has expressed her "warmest congratulations" to the countries in conflict on the agreement reached and the commitment to implement it as soon as possible.
On the other hand, OSCE Secretary-General Feridun Sinirlioglu of Turkey, who supported Azerbaijan in the 2020 war, has alluded to "historical development that emphasizes what diplomacy can achieve, even after decades of conflict and mistrust."
OSCE, headquartered in Vienna, Austria, is the world's largest international security organization , consisting of 57 countries in Europe, Central Asia and North America , which aims to promote democracy, human rights and the rule of law in former communist countries.
The decision to close the "Minsk process" for the Nagorno Karabakh conflict was unanimous, the OSCE stressed in its note.
Since Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, the organization has been blocked on almost every issue in the face of the lack of consensus among its allied states.
