Israel and Hamas negotiating teams will continue talks after a "positive" first round

Israeli negotiating teams and the Palestinian Hamas group will continue indirect talks on the implementation of US President Donald Trump's peace plan in Gaza on Tuesday afternoon, following the conclusion of the first meeting held in the early morning of Tuesday "in the midst of a positive atmosphere," agencies close to the negotiations have reported.
An Egyptian security source has called for anonymity, and at that first meeting, involving Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey, delegations from Israel and Hamas "discussed a road map for the current round of negotiations, as well as the timetable for talks."

The Egyptian source has explained that the Islamist group has called at this first meeting for the cessation of Israeli bombings in the Gaza Strip as "a real challenge to the release of the hostages" and has stressed that talks will continue "after noon on Tuesday".
On the other hand, a Palestinian source has said that the mediators are trying to establish a clear deadline for the exchange process and to establish a ceasefire on the ground, and has stated that "talks will continue for several days due to divergent positions on both sides".
It has stated that negotiations "are not limited to security issues, but take the future of the Gaza Strip administration after the ceasefire and the formation of an interim international force to maintain stability and oversee reconstruction".
According to Trump's plan, the aim of the first phase is for Hamas to release all Israeli hostages alive and dead (negotiations will take place in Egypt). Since the attack on Israeli territory on 7 October 2023, Hamas has held the hostages in exchange for Israel releasing hundreds of Palestinians.
The proposal also includes the demilitarization of the Strip and the possibility of negotiating a Palestinian state in the future, which Netanyahu has rejected.
According to the Palestinian source, Hamas negotiators "insist on the need for effective guarantees and supervision to ensure Israel's commitment to the conditions of any possible agreement, particularly with regard to the cessation of military operations and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Strip." Hamas, represented in the negotiations by a delegation headed by the chief negotiator, Khalil al-Haya, and which, together with other members of its team, emerged unharmed from the Israeli bombing of 9 September against a meeting in Qatar.
Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu ordered Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer on Sunday to lead the delegation, but finally postponed his arrival until Wednesday, along with US Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff and Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, according to sources.
