Trump has advanced that he will not subsidize Colombia by appointing Petro as "leader of drug trafficking."
The Colombian president replied that he was "cheating" on himself because he had a duty in his political career to denounce drug mafias.
President of the United States Donald Trump has announced that he willno longer subsidize Colombia because of the "slowness" shown in the fight against drug trafficking.
"Colombian President Gustavo Petro is a leader in drug trafficking and promotes mass drug production in both large and small areas across Colombia, a country where drug trafficking has become by far the largest business and where Petro does nothing to stop it, even though the United States has given him substantial subsidies for it," Trump said in statements to the Truth Social network.
In addition, he has warned that if Petro does not close "those areas immediately," the US will close them.
Trump has made these statements a month after the US removed Colombia from the list of countries fighting drugs.
This decision has also been taken, as the US recently stated, "in full armed conflict", as six drug-related vessels have been attacked in the Caribbean Sea.
Petro said Trump is fooling himself.
The Colombian president has replied to Trump that he is "cheating" on himself, calling him "the leader of drug trafficking," because, he said, he has had a duty in his political career to denounce drug mafias.
"The main enemy of drug trafficking in Colombia has come in the 21st century, the one that has exposed its relations with Colombia's political power has been me," Petro wrote in X.
